Natural Destiny
Mom, my sister Joanne and I had an amazing visit with Governor Eddie Calvo. It was the governor who gave a copy of Natural Destiny to President Obama. The president read the book and sent me a letter of thanks for writing my mother's story.
During our amazing visit, thanks to friends and family we were able to visit several points on the naval base including Sumay Park and the cross that survived the bombs during World War II.
Monday, October 14 – Monday, October 21 I visited 13 Middle and High Schools and talked with 2500+ Students and talked with them about their heritage. They asked questions, sang, danced and welcomed me with open arms. What an amazing group of kids!
Sunday, October 13 - We attended Mass at the Catholic Church in the village of Umatec and met new family members for the first time. Later that day, we spent the evening with our very good friends, Lorraine and Richard Okada in Barrigada.
Saturday, October 12 (afternoon) - Mom’s sister, Isabel’s 86th Birthday Party. Saturday, October 12 (evening) We went to a birthday party for a friend who celebrated her 90th birthday. There is always a party on Guam complete with church, food, music and dancing.
Wednesday, October 9 – A fabulous visit to Chamorro Village to experience local food, craftsmen, local artists, musicians and cultural dancers.
Monday, October 7 – I Arrived on Guam. Officers of the Guam Council of the International Reading Council met me at the Guam airport. Thankfully, they knew I would be very tired following almost 21 hours of total flight time. They took me to the hotel shortly after arriving because all I was interested…
